Package math
Illinois labels warn that intoxication from edibles may be delayed 2 or more hours. Everyone reacts differently. This is not medical advice.
Why edibles feel different
Edibles work more slowly than smoking or vaping. Illinois requires every edible label to say so: intoxication may be delayed 2 or more hours. That delay is why people take a second piece too early and end up with far more than they meant to.
How you react depends on your body, your tolerance and how much you take. Start low and go slow. If you have a health question, ask a doctor.
Illinois edible limits
Every adult-use edible package in Illinois holds at most 100 mg of THC, split into servings of 10 mg marked by scoring, wrapping or another indicator. Residents can possess up to 500 mg of THC in infused products and visitors up to 250 mg.
What to look for on the label
- Total THC per package in milligrams.
- THC per serving or piece. Divide total by pieces if it is not printed.
- The caution line about delayed intoxication.
- Ingredients and allergens, like any food.
Storage, kids and pets
Keep edibles sealed in their child-resistant package and out of sight and reach of children and pets. Edibles can look like ordinary candy or snacks.
